Harbor Sampling and Temporary Cover

Lake Michigan

Provided sediment sampling at a Superfund Site on Lake Michigan. After the sampling was completed, the U.S. EPA was interested in placing a temporary HDPE cap over a PCB “hot spot” to prevent this from washing out during spring runoff. Provided the design and installation of the HDPE cap and performed as a sub-consultant for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ERCS contractor.

Hazardous Waste Drum Recovery

Houghton County, Michigan

Provided clean-up services for a five mile area of Torch Lake, located in Houghton County, Michigan. Responsible for surveying five miles of shoreline along with hydrographic survey for target identification in water depths to 30 feet. Provided ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) service to identify hazardous waste barrels submerged in Torch Lake. Recovered, sampled, overpacked and stored drums until the hauling contractor transferred them to an approved landfill. This was a Superfund Site and involved Level B and Level C personnel protection.
